The crankshaft of Wartsila 6R32 was reported damaged by one of our clients based in Dubai. Our team of two technicians travelled to Dubai and boarded the vessel.

The following were the observations and actions taken by RA Power Solutions technicians:

  • Our technicians immediately inspected the damaged crankpin no. 05 of Wartsila 6R32 upon arrival.

  • We observed an ovality of 0.18 mm in crankpin no. 05.

  • Bearing line marks due to the seizure of bearings were observed on the crankpin diameter.

  • All other parameters, such as hardness, deflection, and MPI results, were observed to be satisfactory.

  • Machining of crankpin no. 05 was undertaken to 0.5 mm undersize.

  • In this case, the radius profile was observed to be damaged during the initial inspection. The part was repaired, and the radius fillet profile was maintained as original.

  • The complete job from inspection to repair of the crankshaft of Wartsila 6R32 was executed while sailing the vessel from Dubai Port to Amman Port, Jordan.

  • We use a specially designed crankshaft grinding machine to execute the repair while sailing the vessel.

  • The machine absorbs the vibration and is capable of maintaining tolerance in terms of taper & ovality within 0.02 / 0.03 mm.
