Crankshaft Repair While Sailing of Vessel | Worldwide
R A Power Solutions, with over 46 years of experience in onsite crankshaft grinding, has developed specialised processes, tools, and expertise to perform onsite crankshaft repairs while a vessel is in motion, with no need to stop the vessel.
We can inspect, grind, and polish crankshafts up to 700 mm in diameter while the vessel is in service. Our on-site crankshaft grinding machines are specially designed, and their metallurgical qualities have been improved over time to efficiently absorb vibrations that occur during ship sailing.
We have completed hundreds of crankshaft grinding jobs while ships operated in service, even in choppy seas. The manufacturer routinely keeps taper and ovality tolerances well within the manual recommendations.
Recently, we completed the repair of crankpins No. 1 and No. 4 on a Hyundai MAN B&W 8L28/32 engine, with a standard diameter of 230.00 mm. This job was completed while the vessel was sailing from Mundra Port, India, to Coega Port, South Africa.
RA Power Solutions performed the repair of the Hyundai MAN B&W 8L28/32 crankshaft during sailing, resulting in significant cost savings for the vessel owners.
